LINKS

Below you’ll find some of our good buddies and some helpful resources in the surf world

Nor-Cal Bands:

The Hypnotic IV – High-octane surf band from Sacramento.  Every time we play with them, we want to play with them

again that much more. (Currently inactive)

Pollo Del Mar – These guys have been the kings of surf in SF for a long time, and we had the honor of playing with them a

few times recently and hope to do it again, even if they don’t love PBR like we do.

The Del-Lames – We have played a handful of show with them, and love it every time.  They do a killer blend of garage

and surf.  They are great musicians and good friends of ours.

The Reducing Agents – A local surf start-up featuring stuff that is almost as fast and loud as The Lava Rats.  Killer two-

guitar attack, but unfortunately Bill plays bass for them, so therefore they stink.

The Aquamarines – Currently going through a bit of a “rebirth” expect these guys to start promoting a new CD featuring a

wealth of surf talent.

The Neptunes – We still call them Nor-Cal, even though they’re from Fresno.  These guys put on an amazing show featuring

double-neck guitars.  The fact that they wear fezzes makes them cooler than we could ever hope to be.

The Coppertones – Surf-garage from here in the city.  These guys keep getting better and better every time we play with them.

Check them out and learn how to “do the coppertone”.  Plus, even though their site doesn’t mention it – Taylor is currently drumming with them.

The Pyronauts – A high-energy surf band from Auburn, CA (I don’t really know where it is

either).  Everyone said we should play shows with these guys, so we did.  Everything they have matches, from their shirts to their amps to their guitars.  Seriously.  They also had long flowing hair.  We love these guys.  And hate them.

The Aquamen – The legendary masters of surf intoxica.  We have yet to play with them, but hope to change that very

quickly.  They put on one hell of a show, and excited all of SF by reuniting after nearly five years of inactivity.

        So-Cal Bands:

The Infrareds – These guys just plain rock.  They put on a high energy show that’s even faster and louder than ours.  The

first time we saw them, Bill’s jaw dropped.

The Detonators – Great pals of ours, not only do they play great stuff but they drive a Winnebago and cook killer Carne

Asada.  A trip down south isn’t complete without reminding them how much better Nor Cal Bands are.

CHUM – So-Cal’s Killerest Surf Band, ‘nuff said.  These guys rock, they rock hard.

Slacktone – The best in the business.  Hands down.

The Ghastly Ones – Another recent re-uniting, these guys bring back their spooky surf sounds, this time adding an organ for

fuller effect.  We were supposed to play with them last summer down in SoCal, but you know how that goes.

Hopefully on our next trip….

Kelp – We’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with these guys twice at the South Bay Surf Stomp, and each time we’ve

been blown away.  Great musicians and great guys.  Paul, their guitarist, wins brownie points for coming out to a show when he was visiting SF a while back.

        No” Cal Bands:

The Diamondheads – Granted, they surf on a completely different coast, but they’re a great

band, and we were glad to have them out here in the SF area last year, and hope they hurry back again soon.  Brian also sold Bill the ’66 reverb tank he is presently using.

The Nebulas – Crazy high energy surf from Boston.  These guys really know how to do it right.  Not to mention that Bill

owns one of their old reverb tanks.  These guys definitely do it right.

Satan’s Pilgrims – Yet another recent re-uniting, and thank heavens for that.  These guys are one of the best surf bands out

there.  When Bill saw them back in March, he damn near lost his mind.  We’re basically eyeing the possibility of playing up in the Pacific Northwest so we have an excuse to try to set up a show with these guys.

The ‘Verb – A group of young guys playing really solid trad surf up in Seattle.  Their new CD should be out soon, and from

what we’ve heard, it should be the tits.  These guys know what they’re doing, and hopefully they’ll keep doing it for a long time.

The Reluctant Aquanauts – A surf trio from Chicago that knows how to crank it.  If only these guys were a little closer to

the coast, we’d be playing with them all the time.  Hell, you can’t go wrong with a surf band whose guitarist is named Bill, now can you?

The Crimson Ghosts – An all-Misfits surf instrumental cover band from Boston.  We had the honor of playing two shows

with these guys when they came out to the west coast in June, and we were absolutely floored.  These guys brought the house down in both venues, and made it hard as hell for us to follow them.

        Surf-related links:

Surf Guitar 101 – A web forum for all things surf.  If you become a member, you can have Bill bore you with stupid tidbits

all the time.  But seriously, this is the spot to keep you finger on the pulse the world of surf (and some things not-so-surf).

Reverb Central – Site from DJ and general surf music guru Phil Dirt, this page has everything

you’d ever want to know about surf releases.  Check out some of the great things he has to say about us!  (and try to believe that we didn’t pay him to do it either!)

Mach Turtle – Yeah, Jamie is a silly hippie, but she is VERY good about getting

everyone the lowdown on shows up and down the Cali coast.

Rickshaw Records – Rick, formerly of the band Surf Report, has put together one hell of a business.  This

independent label serves primarily the surf community, and even offers handfuls of free downloads (with artwork!) of live shows.  This is the place to go to get a copy of the compilation “Charlie Does Surf”
